Description

In this lesson, Ss will be engaged in receptive skill development by listening for detailed information with a video about the virtual world. The lesson starts with a discussion about popular websites. This is followed by pre-teaching vocabulary. Finally, it ends with discussion questions.

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of technology

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Write the names of 3 websites to the board and encourage the students to ask questions about each one. -facebook -hotmail -hurriyet (newspaper) - then get students to write their own favourite websites and ask questions each other in pairs.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- Get the students to be in pairs. - Ask a question : "How has the internet changed the world?" - Ss discuss it in pairs. W/C F/B -Pre-teach vocabulary in 2a + pioneer, cencorship by eliciting, ccq, drilling, writing and in the end practising. -Have the students discuss the sentences in 2a and check if they were mentioned in previous discussions.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-The students read the text in part 3 quickly and discuss the questions in pairs. W/C, F/B. -The students read the sentences in part 4 and check the comprehension. - Play the DVD while the students are putting the sentences in order. They will check the answers in pair. W/C, F/B.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

- Get the students to be in groups of 3 students and get them to match the people and the extracts in part 5a. - T plays DVD again for the students to check the answers. W/C, F/B.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- Get the students to discuss the questions in part 5c in groups of 5 students. - T monitors support and helps if needed. - Give the students inventions worksheet and get them to think about an invention about the internet and answer the questions. W/C F/B
