In this lesson students will practice the use of comparative adjectives and adverbs and also the use of as ....as, in the context of life change.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of comparative adjectives and adverbs,as....as in the context of life change

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about comparative adjectives and adverbs,as....as in the context of how to live your life slowly
  • To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of the comparison of now and before

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T asks Ss : 'How your life has changed in the last 5 years ?' 'do you study harder than you did before ?Do you work harder than before? 'are you more responsible than before? are you as stressed as before? -Ss are given one minute to think about their answers . -Sts share their answers with whole class. -T elicits as much adjectives and adverbs as possible.

Test #1 (3-5 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

-T shows the Sts list of words on the projector. - T asks Sts which ones are adjectives and adverbs or maybe both. -T elicits the answers from Sts and write it in the board.

Teach (10-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

- T elicits the usage of adjectives and adverbs from students -T elicits the form of comparative adjectives and adverbs 'do we add ly why to adjectives? how do we compare when we have more than one syllable? do we add more ? -T elicits how many syllables do the words on the WB have and how does that effect the form?. - T writes 'as...as' on the WB and ask Sts to form a sentence -T clarifies the MFP of the TL on the WB

Test #2 (5-8 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

-T chests the exercise HO 2b. -T tells the Sts that they have to circle the right form or tick if both -Ss to answer 'Circle the right form or put a tick if both answers are right' -T tells Sts that they have 2 min to answer. -T ask CCQ 'are you going to listen?' 'are you going to circle?' 'How much time do you have?' - Sts check thier answers in pairs. -whole class feedback.

controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • to listen and fill in the TL

- T chests HOs 5a -T tells students to guess the missing words -T elicits some ideas but doesn't tell them the answers -T tells Sts that they are going to listen to an expert telling you 5 tips about how to live your life slowly. -T palys the audio -T tells Sts to check their answers in pairs. - whole class feedback

Free practice (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- T Chests discussion sheets - T tells students that they have one minute to think of answers for the questions Talk about how your life changed in the last 10 years. How did it change? Do you have more or less free time now? Why ? What would you like to have time for? -Sts do pair discussion . -provide feedback if time allows.
