Description

In this listening lesson students will focus on object pronouns and possessive pronouns in the context of a fashion model describing her favorite things including days, family, and city preferences. Before the lesson, Ss will have a vocabulary session explaining some of the new words they will be introduced to. In the first listening task students will listen for specific information and in the second task they will listen for more detailed information. Ss will later practice a language focus on possessive and objective pronouns.

Main Aims

  • To provide specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about objective and possessive pronouns in the context of fashion and family or preferences

  • To provide clarification of grammar and vocabulary regarding objective and possessive pronouns in the context of preferences

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show a picture of Gina. Allow students time to talk about her. Later elicit her job and basic ideas about her.

Pre-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Pre-teach some vocabulary from the lesson, fashion model, fashion show, designer, model, adore, Swedish, divorced, married. Write some of these words on the board and "Ask what do you know about this topic?" including "What is your favorite city?". Use matching h/o afterwards. Group work, Peer check with new partners. Show answers.

While-Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Write on the board. "What is her favorite...city, day, designer, food". LISTEN 7.1, peer check, take FB. Pass out Listening 1 h/o and LISTEN AGAIN a second time. Ss complete gap fill. Peer check with different groups. Show answers. Do T/F

While-Reading/Listening #2 (12-13 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Show Ss Listening 2 question word h/o. Show they must answer fill in the blank with the question word. LISTEN TWICE. Peer-check and show answers.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students pair up. Demonstrate the script of questions and answers. They will read the script to each other as way of interviewing each other whilst one student is Gina. Should students have extra time give them Grammar spot activity and write the chart on the board. Elicit answers whilst they fill it out.
