Main Aims

  • To give practice in listening for specific information and to practise speaking for fluency.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show Ss the picture of a calendar and tell them to write their birthdays on the board.(Most possibly they will write 25 May etc.And it says F for 25 May on the calendar.) Ask them what it is.Most probably they will say Friday because they might have learnt it or guess.Do the same for some other Ss. Write the days of the week on the board in disorder.

Exposure (2-4 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ex.1 Tell Ss to listen and write the days of the week in the correct order on the calendar. Then, listen and repeat the days as a whole class and some Ss individually.Focus on the pronunciation.

Highlighting (5-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ex.2 Ask the question "What day is it today?" and elicit the answer from the Ss.Then in pairs Ss ask and answer the questions.

Clarification/Presentation (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ex.3 Write "....... the weekend" on the board. Elicit the answer and write the times in the first part of the exercise 3 and elicit the answers. Then,Ss write the correct preposition in pairs. Highlight that we use at with times,on with days and in with time expressions. But highlight again that we use on Friday afternoon and on Saturday evening.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further

Ex.4 Write "..... nine o'clock" on the board.Elicit the answer and then get Ss to complete the other sentences in pairs with either in,on or at.W/C FB. Ask the question "Do you have English lessons at nine o'clock?" and elicit the answer.Write the answer on the board if necessary. Ask the question "When do you have English lessons?" and elicit the answer.Write the possible answer on the board. Then Ss ask and answer questions 2-5 and answer the question "When do you have English lessons?" with other possible ones in pairs. FB from some individual students.
