Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of Weather and season words with cardinal directions in the context of Travel and holidays

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of holidays, weather and travel

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show Ss a picture of weather elicit from Ss what the picture is about... what is happening what does the picture show? when we would see the thing (rainbow) in the sky etc. Encourage Ss to talk about weather etc.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Weather picture WS Ss have pictures of weather match the words with the pictures. (Individual) Feedback as a WG onto the board

Teach (10-12 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Introduce new vocabulary which Ss struggled with in first activity using flash cards Model and drilling of vocabulary Weather report activity Map of UK projected Ss have weather symbols, T reads out a weather report Ss run up and post the Relevant symbol in the correct place. FB Ss help each other to check the symbols are in the right pace after listening again to the activity and checking.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Activity 1 questions 1-4 Individual Pg 54 Picture projected on the board Ss then answer the questions individual WG feedback to check answers.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Activity 3 Ss are given the questions on a slip of paper they have 5 minuets to read the questions and think about the answers. Then Ss mingle around the room asking each other the questions and answering them. (Ask 5 people) Monitor and record TL use for FB FB Ask Ss at random to tell us one persons answers they asked and their answer for the questions. Ss use of TL language good bad feed back on the board to the WG
