Description

In this lesson, students will listen for details in the context of admiring people. They will also do a speaking activity talking about the people they admire. Useful language and some new words will be given in order to produce the activities.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice in listening for details in the context of people you admire

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice in speaking in the context of people you admire.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ensure I know the students name. Elicit the topic. Show the picture and ask questions.

Set context (3-5 minutes) • To generate interest in the topic

Make sure they know what admire is and ask questions about people they admire.

Pre-listening (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the listening task

Elicit the words they might find difficult in the listening task. Give them instructions before playing the audio.

Listening (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and detailed information listening tasks

Play the audio twice. Provide them the script if needed.

Speaking task (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging task about people they admire

Give them instructions for the speaking activity. Make sure instructions are clear and simple. Students will take notes and then speak to their partners.

Post-Speaking/Feedback (5-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the speaking task and expand on what they've learned

Ask students about the people they admire/each other admire. Give them feedback.
