In this lesson plan students will listen to a song and will read the lyrics of the song. They will listen for gist and detail through various exercises through out the time of the lesson

Materials

Abc Project of happiness Video
Abc Detailed Questions H/O -Be happy Song
Abc A3 paper and Markers

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed in the context of happiness

  • To provide practice and clarification in the context of being happy

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Write words on the board ex: food, smiles, friends, family,learning, good grades, laughs, Tv, trips charity, religion - Ask Ss what emotions are associated with these words - Play a video on the project of happiness - Ask Ss gist and detailed questions about the video ex: What is this video about ? Is it about sad or happy Ss? What are the main items that makes people happy presented in this video ? - Ask Ss to think of 3 major elements of their own happiness ?

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- Write certain expressions on the board ex: Bring me down Don't hold it back I don't care Feel like Take a break - Give Ss the lyrics of the song - Let Ss skim through the lyrics - Ask Ss CCq's on these expressions -Play the song for students, ask Ss about the meaning of these expressions - Elicit from Ss if they use these expressions often

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-In Pairs, give the gap fill exercise about the song - Explain to Ss the instructions of the activity - Model the first answer for them, - Play the song once again - Monitor the class - Take notes of the mistakes - Peer correction

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

- Ss listen again to the track - In pairs, give clear instructions about the activity followed by ICQ's, and pass out handout - Monitor the class's work and write down mistakes - If necessary, Ss listen again and check answers together - Feedback by passing out HO with the correct answers

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- Set Ss in groups of 3 - Ask Ss to use A3 paper and draw the three main elements of happiness in any geomatrical shape - Give Ss a set time to finish brainstorming - Reflect on the project of happiness video - Each group will have a presenter that will present their A3 with their elements to the whole class - Whole class feedback
