Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of James Bond perfect girlfriend

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students are shown a relevant visual and asked if they recognize it. -Do you know this picture? Can you remember the film you saw it? -Can you tell me more about James Bond? Who is he? What's his job?

pre-Reading (5-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Then they are pre-taught the possible blocking vocabulary by showing them different pictures of Tutankhamen coffin in different exhibitions around the world and start ask them will it come again? will it stay there forever? and then through a vocabulary quiz they are given I am going to elicit the meaning of the new vocab from Ss. In order to clarify the instruction I model the first question. -I'm giving you this quiz, and you work in pairs to match the words with their definitions and pictures. - For example, I'm matching the picture with the word . - Now you do the same with your partners.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-10 minutes) • To make the Ss practice reading for gist

Ask the students some questions after hiding the title of the reading passage. for example (what is the text about?) and then give them the chance to read to guess the title giving them simple instructions and applying ICQs (Are you going to read fast or slow?) to make sure they've got the clear instructions.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-15 minutes) • To make the Ss practice reading for specific information

Teacher leads students to the reading passage. But before teacher chests the handout and says we are going to read a text on James Bond. But before reading, look at theJames Bond likes girls who........? part ICQs -Are we reading first? no -What are we doing first?Looking at the choices. -After reading eliciting the different answers from the students and don't approve at first and ask the reasons why they chose this or that. -Teacher says that look the questions and then as pairs read the passage again to answer the questions. Demo one question and then ask ICQs -Are we reading alone?no -Are we reading first?no -What are we doing first?looking at the questions. Elicit the answers and give feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss. fill in the questionnaire they are given (Question Time) by asking questions to people and answering them back. and as a freer exercise get them the chance to describe their boy/girlfriend.
