Description

In this lesson, the students will read for skimming and details and will practice prepositions that collocate with verbs and adjectives in the context of improving memories. A new vocabulary will be elicited to make the text more accessible.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ensure I know the students names. Show the picture. Ask ss to describe the picture. Make sure they know what memory is and ask questions about how they improve their memories.

Pre-Reading (12-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Elicit the new vocabulary: effortlessly, consciously, struggle, chunk, patting, sadly. CCQ where appropriate. Drilling Writing

Skimming/reading for details (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information

Give instructions: Ss need to do exercise 2 (handout). Ss will have the text to skim for details. Pair check Feedback

Specific information task (10-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading

Give time to students read the text and answer exercise 4. Work in pairs Check Feedback

Post-Reading/Feedback (5-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Do exercise 5 together (handout) - students centred. Discussion about improving memories. What they will do to improve their memories?
