Daily Life and Routines
Elementary level

Description

From this lesson students will learn new vocabulary about life and every day routines. Once they learned those, new words will be used in the Simple Present tense sentences for practice.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about an actor's life in the context of daily routine.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of every day activities by using Present Simple Tense.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10 minutes) • Engage students and create interest with new vocabulary

I'll introduce new vocabulary from p 22 exercise 1, by presenting picks on the white board. Then I'll show words on the cards and select students one by one to put them next to matching picks. Once it's done, I'll ask them to repeat those words few more times after me, stressing on pronunciation.

Exposure (5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

To create some interest, I'll put few famous Turkish actors on the board. I'll make a list of simple possible questions and have students in pairs ask each other what is actor's life like.

Useful Language (5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

I'll have few words with picks from the text on the white board, but not too many. I'll also tell them not to worry about the word they don't know.

Reading exercise (15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students will be asked to read the text provided to them. Once they're done, I'll talk to the whole group and ask them some simple questions like "Is actor's life good?" , just to see if they understood the text.

Post reading task (10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

I'll ask everyone to work individually on exercise 3 from p 22, answering true/false questions. Once they are done, they'll compare their answers in pairs. After that, I'll get feed back from the group.
