Intermediate-Upper-intermediate level


In this lesson students will practice the idioms by acting out the situations where it's possible to use them. After that they will have to describe the photo from their album, compare and contrast the photos of each other. Then they will practice gap filling task (grammar) from EGE practice papers (10 variants, variant 4 and 5). In the end we will discuss the mistakes and try to fix them by practicing with grammar exercises from Golitcenskiy. Then they will listen to the tape from PET to practice listening skills. Then we will check the home task (work with video, I will ask them some words and expressions and after that they will have to answer the same questions as ppl in the video, trying to use the words and constructions from the video) In the very end of the lesson I will give and explain their home work and give a feedback

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and review of tenses, passive voice, nouns, adjectives, adverbs, ing/ed adjectives in the context of different topics

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation, discussing maybe in the context of asking questions. revising idioms


Warmer/Lead-in (3-10 minutes) • revise the idioms

1 revise by throwing a cube and giving them meaning of the idiom 2 they find idioms under their chairs and act the story out in couples (if they are 4-5. in case they are 3. Polina works with Dasha) 3 we write a dictation 4 write down new idioms

Speaking practice (10-15 minutes) • to use the idioms in speech

1 they choose a pic out of theirs 2 they prepare for 2-3 minutes 3 they describe a pic -where and when the photo was taken -what/who is in the photo -what is happening -why you keep the photo in your album -why you decided to show the picture to your friend Compare and contrast photos (urs and ur partner) 1. give a brief description of the photos (action, location) 2. say what the pictures have in common 3. say in what way the pictures are different 4. say which kind of the activities presented in the pictures you'd prefer 5. explain why

Sounds practice (5-10 minutes) • to work on pronaunciation

1 listen - repeat - make their own sent - imitate the intonation 2 4A word formation - make nouns - complete the gaps - listen to check 3 listen and repeat the words and formed nouns

Test #1 Mountain bikini + Build your own robot (8-10 minutes) • find difficult areas

1 students do the task by themselves 5 min 2 check it (reread) - I write the answers on the bb 3. compare with the right answers 4 explain the mistakes

Teach (10-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the difficulty

tell about types of the grammar units do tasks from grammar book explaining your choice

Test #2 (5-8 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Listening PET Test 2 part 3 (5-10 minutes) • to improve listening skills

1 I ask them vocabulary from the video and write it on the bb 2 they answer the questions from the video using vocabulary
