Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of dealing with stress

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows Slide 1 again & reminds ss of the topic of the lesson by asking "Have you felt stressed out recently? What for and Why?" (Write this on the board if need be) Ss discuss in pairs. Get brief f/b.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Show Slide 7 with sample sentences on the board. Ss compare the differences. Use CCQs to make the differences clear.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

See exercises 4 on p.99 in Straightforward SB Pre-Intermediate. The student discuss this in groups of 3/4. Prompt them to talk about their "recent experiences" & use the "time phrases"
