in this lesson students will be able to write a formal letter and will get exposed to some new words related to zoo animals

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a lettre in the context of a formal lettre about a trip to the zoo

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of some new words about a trip to the zoo

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will ask students how had been to a trip before ? where were it? who wants to go to the zoo? can you name some animals we can see in the zoo? T will write answers on board .

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T will ask students have any of you wrote a letter before ? what did you write first the body of the head or closing? T will write some answers on the board . and then T will preview a business letter format .

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T will give clear instruction about the structure of the business format and the name of each part (header ,body and closing)

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T will start to explain exactly how to write business letter by writing the letter format on board. address of the receiver . address of sender . date. the body of the letter . your signature .

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

in pairs students will be asked to write formal letter as if they work at the school administration and they are informing them that their kids are having a trip to the zoo using the target language and the right format of the business letter students will have to mention in the letter that the parents have to send their reply whether their kids are going to join the trip or not. peer correction then T will gives feed back.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T will HO a worksheet for a scrambled formal letter and students will be asked to work in groups and to put the letter in order . T takes notes on the errors and then delayed feedback after the activity write errors on board and ask Ss to find the mistakes

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will work in groups T will HO sample business letters with mistakes or errors. The students then should work to fix the problems. Eventually, T will point where they are revising the actual message in order to make it more persuasive or professional.
