In thi lesson we will focus on writing skills. I will start with pre-writing activities, the students will see a sample essay, they will learn some new vocabularies like connection words which will be helpful in witting an essay. then will do some brain storming and get some ideas about the topic which will be Traffic in Istanbul. Then I will let Ss write first draft, and check with their partners and see if there are other ideas. Then let them produce second draft. After that will will give some comments if we had time will let them write final draft and check together for mistakes.


Main Aims

  • Writing, to let Ss do a process writing: brainstorming, drafting, reflecting and producing final draft

Subsidiary Aims

  • reading and vocabularies. gist reading.


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

As a warmer. I will put the title of the essay on the WB and ask Ss to think about it and say if they agree with it or not. "Community service is the best punishment for young people who commit a minor offence."

Exposure (8-11 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

I will ask the Ss to read the article, gist reading, and see what is the writer opinion is and if they could guess the content. before we fill the gaps I will teach the new vocabularies, then ask them to fill the gaps with the words or phrases from the list. -Community service: is a non-paying activity that is performed by someone or a group of people for the benefit of the public offence: illegal act, crime. -whereas: He is a globalist, whereas we are nationalists who will put our country first. -in most cases: in many situations

Pre-writing (4-5 minutes) • brainstorming about the topic " Traffic in Istanbul"

will write the topic on the WB and ask students to brainstorm what ideas related to the topic we can mention or talk about in our writing task: Traffic in Istanbul -public transport, prices, fastest public transport method - Private transport -traffic jam, traffic jam hours - safety.. - pollution..

drafting (8-10 minutes) • To write the first draft and put their ideas on the paper

I will ask the Ss to pour their ideas on the drafting paper, I will ask them not to worry about making grammatical or spelling mistakes. Then i will ask them to check with their partners or in groups and see different ideas.

Reflect and review (5-6 minutes) • add more ideas

i will ask the Ss to reflect on first draft check if they used the transition words or opinion phrases and add any any interesting ideas.

Final draft (10-12 minutes) • To rewrite their essays

I will ask the Students to rewrite their essays and pay more attention to the check list and the form of the language.

Reading and correction (6-8 minutes) • to let Ss read some examples and correct some mistakes

I will ask the Ss to stick their papers on the wall so all Ss can mingle and read, i will ask student that every one read two examples at most and try to see the ideas and and check if the Ss used the transition words and opinion phrases, and correct mistakes all together.
