Description

In this lesson, students learn some new words about fortune-telling and they become familiar with predictions and use "be going to". The lesson starts with some pictures that show fortune-tellers to encourage students to predict the content of the text. Then encourage them to listen for gist and after that practice scanning for specific information. Finally, develop their oral fluency by providing an opportunity to personalize the topic

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information, detailed and deduction listening practice using a text about What's going to happen? in the context of Fortune-telling

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of Fortune-telling

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (0-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Show a picture of a fortune-teller -Elicit the meaning of fortune-teller -ask them to talk in pairs about these questions: Did they go to see a fortune-teller? Do they believe? Do they want to know about your future?

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Give them handout sheets to match the new words to the pictures -Check their answers in pairs -Check w/c -Drill if they need

While-Reading/Listening #1 (8-15 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-Give them handout sheets -Ask them to read two first questions -Ask them to listen to the audio for gist and answers the two questions -Check their answers in pairs -write the answers on the board

While-Reading/Listening #2 (15-35 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

-Listen to the audio again to answer detailed questions -Check their answers in their group -Play the audio again -Write the answers on the board

Post-Reading/Listening (35-45 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-Give them cards -Ask them to tell others fortune -Monitor -Do delayed error correction
