Main Aims

  • To enable Ss to develop their reading for gist and specific information in the context of a nespaper article about an energy pod.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Speaking

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show Ss a picture and get them involved into a converstaion. Where is the man? What is he doing? Why is he doing it? Talk to your partner for 2 minutes. Get feedback from some pairs.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Show Ss a few pictures (the words they may not know) and elicit the words. If they struggle, add miming and gesture. If they don't know, introduce the words under the pictures, drill them chorally and individually, if needed.

While-Reading/ #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Let's see if you were right. Set Ss an initial reading task. Read the text and answer 2 questions: 1. Where does the man sleep? 2. How does he feel after after? Have Ss repeat the instruction and the questions to check their understanding. Hand out the text. Ss read it individially and do the task in pairs. Nominate some Ss to get the answers.

While-Reading #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

I've got some more questions for you. Get Ss look at them on WB and read the article again. Ss read the text individually and complete the task in groups of 3. Have Ss write their answers on WB under the questions. Ask Ss whether they all agree on that. Draw 7 boxes on the right side of WB. Elicit 'At 4.30 Will goes to ... (MetroNaps) and write 1 in the 4th box. What's next? Show Ss the exercise (w/sh) and hand it out. Ss read the statements and write the numbers in appropriate boxes. Pair work. W/c feedback. Have 1 St write all numbers on WB.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ask Ss to think of the given questions and talk to their partners about it. 1. Do you have busy days? How do you feel? 2. Do you want to sleep in an energy pod? Why?
