Description

In this class students will be introduced to present simple with I ,you ,we and they in positive and negative statement forms. Wh questions and yes or no questions and short answers will also be practiced.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of present simple positive negative and question forms for I/we/they/you in the context of food and sport

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a asking and answering present simple questions in the context of food
  • To provide listening practice using a text about likes and dislikes in the context of food
  • To provide practice of likes and dislikes in the context of food drinks and sports

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows pictures of food sports and drinks on the WB using projector while the names of the pictures are stick on the wall. T elicits the names of the pictures then ask them the find the names of the pictures and put them under the pictures. T prepares sts to listen for the pronunciation of the pictures given. track 5.1. T plays the recording and get sts to repeat chorally and individually making sure they can reproduce the correct word stress.

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T writes on the WB three things she like tick them and show by expression and gestures that she likes them. T asks sts to tick things they like on the HO. T introduces I like ...... T plays 5.2 recording.Then T crosses things that she doesn't like by showing gestures then asks sts to cross their things they don't like. T introduces I don't like ......T plays 5.3 recording.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T gives Sts a HO taken from workbook ask them in answer and then check in pairs.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T focuses sts attention on the photo of Harvey. T asks Sts where's he from ? what sport does he like? T gives Sts HOs and give them time to familiarize with it. T plays track 5.4. T tells Sts to check answers in pairs. then take FB from the whole class. to check understanding T asks CCQs. about the sentences in the recording.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Sts are introduced to do you like ...? sts listen to track 5.5 couple of times. T draws sts attention to the sound /dju:/ and the rising intonation of yes or no questions. sts repeat line chorally and indiviauly. T asks sts to practice the language with new partners by asking you do you like ...? about the things from the starter exercise.

Semi-Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T puts sts in teams . T hangs on the wall randomly ordered positive and negative statments and questions and asks sts to put them in order.

Free Practice (5-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T give sts find someone who HOs and ask sts to mingle trying to find people who meet the criteria on the HOs . T tell sts that the person with the most answered question is the winner.
