TP 2, Present Simple – wh- questions & short answers

Description

In this lesson, students will practice the target language from the previous lesson's reading which was the present simple, then they learn and practice Wh- questions and possessive 's by doing exercises as gap-fills and rearranging words.

Main Aims

  • To introduce/review and give Ss practice in Present Simple -wh- questions and short answers in the context of who we live with

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

SHOW the picture from previous lesson's reading.(p 26) ELICIT information (Who is he? What is his name? Where is he from? Is he handsome? ) WRITE the questions on board if necessary

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Students MATCH the questions with appropriate answers.(sentences related to the reading using the target language) CHECK IN PAIRS. SHOW ANSWERS ON THE BOARD.

Clarification (3-4 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

PUT the students IN PAIRS. FIND MISTAKES AND CORRECT THEM. DO A DEMO. CHECK WITH OTHER PAIRS. SHOW THE ANSWERS on the board. SAY/WRITE few sentences, ELICIT the negative, question form. ASK some questions, students GIVE SHORT ANSWERS.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

DO EXERCISE 1 individually. CHECK IN PAIRS. SHOW THE ANSWERS. DO EXERCISE 2 with DIFFERENT pairs.CHECK ANSWERS with their next pair. PUT 2 or 3 copies of the ANSWERS next to the whiteboards. GO AND CHECK YOUR ANSWERS. DO EXERCISE 3. in pairs.

Semi-Controlled Practice (20-25 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

SHOW the "extra task" (p 30) . DO A DEMO. ELICIT one or two questions. PUT students in PAIRS, ask them to INTERVIEW EACH OTHER. PUT FEW KEYWORDS around the room. students GO AND CHECK when they have any problem. MONITOR CAREFULLY. if possible, WRITE DOWN some good language and errors on the board. PRAISE THE GOOD LANGUAGE, ELICIT THE CORRECT FORM.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

IF TIME, students WRITE A SMALL PROFILE about each other.
