Main Aims

  • To provide Ss practice in speaking for accuracy and fluency in the context of typical friends and free-time activities.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To improve students' ability to use common verb phrases to describe free time activities
  • To provide practice of present simple in the context of typical friends and free time activities

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show a picture from PPT Ss tell who are the people on the photo Hand a Worksheet with my activities Ss work in pairs and make predictions about what I like doing with my friends (2min) After Ss have finished, present PPT and get FB from W/C

Exposure/Useful language - controlled practice (12-15 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through the interview task

Present a handout Ss complete the questionnaire and then interview their partner to find out more about their lives. Ss complete the 'Me' column with a tick or a cross When they have finished, they interview their partner. Highlight the model on the board: Do you......?/ Yes, I do/No, I don't Choose a student and act out the interview Get Ss work in pairs and interview Partner 1 After they have finished interviewing their first partner, Ss find a new partner and complete Partner 2 column Monitor and help if necessary Focus on accuracy and provide immediate correction of the form and use of vocabulary

Feedback (3-5 minutes) • To give Ss practice in reporting their partners' answers

Ss take turns to stand up and ask each other one question from the questionnaire e.g. A: 'Who is your partner?' B: 'Canan' A: 'Does Canan speak English? B: 'Yes, she does/No,she doesn't

Productive Task(s) (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Task 1) Tell Ss look at the activities in the list and ask what activities they do with their friends Elicit a few responses from the Ss Ss work in pairs to ask each other a question 'What things do you do with your friends?' Monitor (help if necessary) and make notes of errors to put on the whiteboard (w/b) for some delayed correction after the activity. Task 2) Ask some Do you....? questions round the class. Monitor and correct errors if necessary. Ss walk around the classroom and interview each other about what they do with friends. Ss make questions with the words and phrases from ex.1 Monitor (help if necessary) and make notes of errors to put on the whiteboard (w/b) for some delayed correction after the activity.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Write some sentences with the errors and correct ones onto the w/b (10-15) Ask Ss to discuss in pairs before the whole class FB Get Ss correct the errors

Free practice (optional) (2-4 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students discuss a question in ex.3 on HO2

Feedback (2-4 minutes) • To give Ss practice in reporting their partners' answers

Ask Ss whether their partners are a typical 'man' friend or a 'woman' friend and why
