Description

This lesson is about lottery money and how the government of the county should spend the money. This would be an interesting topic for Ss to listen about and finally discuss it together. There will be interesting photos from representatives from organizations who would like to receive money.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about state lottery in the context of Decide how to spend lottery money.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a converstation in the context of lottery commission

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

By showing the picture to Ss to elicit lottery and using hangman. Then T asks students to talk about what does the government do with all of the money that they earn from the lottery? in pairs.

Prediction task (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

At this stage, T gives the Ss the text of the St. Ambrosia. Ss will read the text for 2 minutes and then they have to get the whole of idea of the context.

Pre-teach vocabulary (3-5 minutes) • learning new words

At this stage, T elicit 9 vocabularies and writes the new words on the board.

While-Listening #1 Listening for GIST (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Give clear ICQs about 8 sentences and ask them to read them. then T play the recording. Ss have to check and answers individually. The recording for the first time will be played once only. Then they have to check for answers in pairs. for feedback T will ask Ss (W/C)

While-Listening #2 Listening for detail (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

clear ICQs. Then T will give Ss 5cards and then the T plays the recording again for detail information. After that, they have to check the answers (peer check). then teacher asks Ss for feedback.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Clear ICQs. Ss have to discuss their choice from the one that they picked on the picture. in pairs. (semi-controlled practice for speaking)

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • Free parcitce

T regroups the Ss (equal number). T gives an imaginary budget and asks students to discuss in a group and chose one or more cards with the budget. Then, one person from each group should explain which card(s) is/are selected and why.
