Description

In this lesson, students learn about the dates in the context of famous people. By using the simple past grammar, they should use the dates related to the past. Propositions also are one of the focusing areas for this lesson.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

After greeting, I show them a video related to the nationalities, and then ask them "What do you think about our today's topic?"

Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Making an example of my nationality and ask some nationalities of them.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Showing some nationalities and drilling their pronunciations and eliciting the meanings. Also, eliciting the meaning of some jobs from the example which is projected and drilling the pronunciations.

Controlled Practice (10-13 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I give each student one country's flag, included the name of the countries and nationalities with the word stress, and ask them to work in pairs and ask each other about their nationalities. To clarify the ICQ, I make an example with one of them. After their work, I give some WC feedback to make sure about their sentence structures and correct their errors on the spot. Then, I give them a matching handout to make correct sentences with the pictures and mentioned words. This practice also is the controlled one. Then I ask them to check their answers in pairs. Then, I play the answers as a listening part to check. Then, I tell my story related to dated, specifically years. After that, I play a listening to drill the pronunciation of different years. I also play another listening refers to the first practice. It's a small practice using for just fixing their problems. Then they check in pairs and give the WC feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I ask them to play a BINGO game. I read some sentences loudly, referring to the first exercise, and the first one who finds the related person, should say BINGO and repeat the sentence. Then, I ask them to make their own sentences using the information on the exercise. Then, they should produce their questions and answers while talking in pairs. This activity counts as a semi-controlled practice. Then as a feedback, I give some feedbacks from WC.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I ask the students to talk about five remarkable events in their life and say them to their partner. As a clarification and better ICQ, I make an example and ask them to start with I was born in... During their talk, I monitor them and after the task, I will correct some errors.
