ARAS SARIOGLU ARAS SARIOGLU

Aras' Lesson Plan TP 2 - Still at home
A1/2 Elementary level

Description

This lesson will continue with the grammar from the previous few lessons and extends it to wh- questions in simple present tense. Some of the Ss will already know these, but I will still need to go over them. Ss will first be exposed to the TL in the reading in the previous lesson and will continue with the same context.

Materials

Abc Straightforward Elementary A2

Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of the simple present tense with -wh questions and short answers in the context of who we live with.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a interview in the context of who we live with/

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To get them used to the - wh questions

After finishing their class with my colleague Christopher, the Ss will already know what the context is about. They will have read the text about Andy Castle and why he is still living with his family... So I plan to write on the board where I live, with whom I live and where I am from etc... Then I will ask them to construct the question for what I have written.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text.

Here I will go back to the text that Christopher used in his class and ask some questions about Andy because I want to get the students involved with simple present tense grammar with -wh questions like; What is Andy's surname? Where does Andy live? In which city do they live? I will be using the whiteboard to analyse the form of the -wh questions

Clarification (5-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will put students into 5 groups. I will distribute each group a list of questions (see below) and 5 photos (after each group is done with their photo, they will just swap until they get all 5 photos) By looking at each photo they will need to answer these questions. - Who are they? - Where are they? - What do they do on Saturday?

Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will pair them up and they will do exercises 1-3 on page 27. While getting the answers I will be all ears for pronunciation mistakes.

Semi-controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

This is an extra task which includes a chart of uncompleted -wh questions. (it will be distributed). I will ask them to make sentences using those.

Free practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

After the students model the -wh questions, I will choose a student and interview him/her so that everyone can see what the next exercise will be about. Then, I will ask them to interview each other using the prompts in the table
