Materials

Abc recording context about a surprise Birthday party

Main Aims

  • To provide deduction listening practice using a text about birthday party vocabulary in the context of cake candles fire works surprise and some other vocabs related to birthdays

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of bithday's vocabulary

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will ask some gist questions related to the topic of the lesson trying to elicit some information from students like who was invited to any birthday party before did you like it what was the served food in that birthday party etc

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ss will listen to the context to get introduce to the target language : Mother : dear daughter don't forget your father's birthday is on Wednesday Daughter : yes mother am so excited about it Mother: lets prepare a surprise Birthday party for him Daughter: wow it's going to be amazing Mother : I am going to buy some staff for the birthday Daughter :what are you going to buy Mother: chocolate cake, candles, fireworks juice and mini pizzas Daughter : are we going to invite any one or it's just us Mother :I will invite uncle mark and his family and some of our relatives Daughter :dad is going to be so happy Mother : are you going to buy your father a gift for his birthday Daughter :yes I will buy him the watch he wanted to buy last week

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T will ask students to listen carefully to the context and write down the words related to birthdays Then T will ask students to write what they think the context is talking about when they come up with the answers Ss check answers together and then the whole class feed back via projecting the text on the board Ss highlight TL on the board

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T give clear instructions Ss will have to answer 6 detailed comprehension questions: 1) who's birthday is it ? 2)what did the mother is going to buy for the birthday ? 3)what is the gift the daughter is going to buy for the birthday person ? 4) who is going to be invited for the birthday ? 5)when is the birthday is going to be ? 6)what kind of birthdays is it ?

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Students will set into pairs T will give clear instructions Ss will answer 3 Gist questions mark (true or false) and give correction for the wrong answers a)is it the daughter Birthday b)the mother brought a watch as a birthday gift c)only some relatives are going to be invited to the birthday Ss will check answers together then the whole class feed back via projecting the answers on the board

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

students will set into groups: Ss will be asked to design a birthday invitation card to invite their friends to their birthday and they will have to include some if the TL they learnt throughout the lesson.
