Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide scan, detailed and gist reading practice using a text about What's on? in the context of different advertisement s for cinema and theatre

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of Going out in the context of different pictures

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (0-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-give them crossword sheets -ask them to check their answers in pair -ask them to write answers on the board -check whole class

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Elicit the meaning of the words that they do not know -Drill and highlight the stress -ask them to make sentences with often, sometimes and never in pairs -ask some of them w/c -ask them to tell their partners about the last time they went to these places with who and what did they see

While-Reading/Listening #1 (15-20 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-show the reading on the board -ask them to gist -ask them question about the topic

While-Reading/Listening #2 (20-35 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

-ask them to scan -give them questions -ask them to answer -ask them to check their answers in pair -ask them to write on the board

Post-Reading/Listening (35-45 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-show an example sentences on the board -ask them to talk about the last time when they went to cinema or... in pairs -ask some of them to tell their experience in w/c
