in this lesson, students will learn how to write a business formal letter. They will apply the formality, organization ans the structure in the context of business writing. Afterwards, students will write their own letter attracting customers to use their service. Students will apply writing, speaking, listening and reading in this lesson

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Show Ss a real letter as a realia, following a you tube video as a warmer of the topic of business writing. - Ask Ss if they have ever wrote or received a business letter - Ask Ss what makes a business letter different from an email, or other letter ?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading

- Show Ss the MJR business letter through an OHP - Elicit form Ss the main characteristics they see in the model - Ask Ss about the gist of the topic - Ask students to read the letter well once again, underline the vocabulary that invokes the different types of cleaning ex: sweeping moping washing vacuuming dusting - high, low and detailed vaccuming - Ask CCQ's about the meaning of the words.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Using the OHP displaying the letter, ask students their opinion about the business aspect of the service ex: Is this company offering any discounts ? would you consider trying this service ? what would you base your decision on ? - Ask them to write down the words promising low-cost service - Expose the sample of the business letter format on the white board, ask the students to note the structure pointing towards the heading, address, name of the sender, salutation, body and conclusion. - As a controlled practice activity, Ss in pairs will finish a true or false exercise on the format of the business letter.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

- Give clear instructions about the activity . - In two four groups, tell students that they will act as business owners. 2 groups will promote a product, 2 groups will promote a service. - Using a large chart sheets and markers, ask Ss to write a letter to customers attracting them to use their services or products in a business letter using the correct format we discussed. - Open feedback based on Ss's questions. - Each group will present the letter on board, reflecting and presenting in front of class. - Each group will explain the use of structuring and vocabulary in the context of the letter

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

- Ss report on their partners work. -Take notes of the mistakes of each group, ask Ss to grade each other. - Provide the corrections to each group individually, then give the feedback on the board by the end of class. - Give HO for homework to write a thank you letter the school a new topic to discuss next class.
