Description

This lesson rounds of the three lessons and moves away from the course book. It gives the Ss the opportunity to practice the questions from the previous lesson, but also language from the last couple of lessons before today in the context of a party.

Main Aims

  • To give Ss controlled & semi-controlled speaking practice in the context of “What about you?”

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of Simple Present questions wh-questions in the context of what about you?

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (7-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will tell Ss that we will have several games. Ask Ss to match the words from A to the words in B. Ss work in pairs. FB: fast finishers come to the board and match them. Ask other Ss if they agree or disagree. Ask Ss to find the opposites. Demonstrate on the board the first pair. Ss work in pairs. FB: I give each pair one of the words. They come to the board and put it in front of the opposit. Then Ss can compare. Elicit what question words they know. Ask Ss to write down question words in one minute as many as possible. WC one question word from a pair. Write down the ideas on the board. Add the words which they don't mention.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Show SS a picture of a party. Elicit where the people are. Ask them if they like parties. Ask them to raise their thumb if they do. Put their thumb down if they do not. Ask SS to work in a group and give me three things they talk about at a party with a new person. Mark the ideas on the WB. Tell Ss that we are having a party today and meet new people at a party. Elicit two or three questions they will ask about a new person from the whole class. Then ask them to work in pairs and create two more questions. Monitor. Help them with any doubts. SS put the ideas on the board. SS come and add ideas to each other questions. Language FB. Write down four questions with mistakes. SS work in pairs and correct it. Fast finishers come to the WB and correct the mistakes. SS can see the correct answers. Monitor and elicit the correct answers about the form from the Ss. Drill some of the questions if necessary. e. g. What's your name? Where are you from? How old are you? What's your job? What's your hobby? What do you like doing? What do you do in free time? Where do you live?

Productive Task(s) (20-25 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills in the context of questions at the party.

Procedure I will ask Ss to write two questions in each category. We will make two examples together. I will mark them on the WB. Ss will work in pairs. Then they will change a partner finding the person with an opposite word. They will look at each other questions and correct them. And choose one to add to their hangout. Ss will answer the questions in pairs. Ss change pairs finding the number and tell their new partner about the one talked before. I need to check understanding. CCQ: Do you talk about yourself? - No Who do you talk about? - about your partner. Ss mingle and find one person who has the same answer as they do for each question. FB: WC. Do you have any questions that no one answered the same? Do you have the same answers with anyone? What are they?

Feedback and Error Correction (4-4 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Write down some ideas on the board (4-5). One is correct. Ask Ss to find the mistakes and correct them in pairs. WC correction.
