In this lesson, Ss will have the main aim in reading task about the telephone. (the Sub aim would be vocabulary). the lesson starts with some passive vocabulary. then in the reading part, they will understand the new words definition. finally, the lesson ends with some questions regarding exercise 1(prepositional phrases)

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about The red phone box

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of overall view on new words: Landscape, Peak, Monopoly, Compete. in the context of the context is about traditional symbol of Britain (the red phone box)

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in Connected to the contex (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

After greeting and mentioning the name on the W/B, the teacher asks Ss to put their name tags on the table. The great warm for Ss is that teacher ask Ss how much time do they spend on their telephone nowadays? then T will ask them to explain what they used to do in past when they did not have cell phones. and asks them "have you ever been in London? did you have a chance to see one of the old phone boxes?

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

with the last stage, it is important that T Elicit words from Ss like Landscape, peak, Monopoly, compete. then T writes the words on board and then T asks Ss to talk in pairs about this experience in Turkey or London.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

At this stage, T ICQs and then gives the Ss handout for 3 minutes (gist). after that T give Ss handout.Then its necessary that T gives feedback from Ss. Then T asks Ss to read the text again in 3 minutes (skimming) and the gives them the handouts for detailed information. Now T gives Ss should (answer sheets) and asks them to check their answers with their partners and give feedback from the whole class.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

before this stage, the T gives Ss instruction about the gap filling exercise. (they have to learn prepositional phrases) then check the answers with another partner. T check the answers with the video projector.

Post-reading / Speaking (final exercise) (if possible) (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

at this stage, students will talk about the questions which they worked on the last stage and T monitors the Ss.
