Description

This lesson continues with the same context as the previous lesson, and gives the Ss the opportunity to practise language covered earlier with the new TL today. Some Ss may know this language, but they still need time for clarification and practice.

Main Aims

  • To introduce and practice simple present questions and negatives for he/she/it using the verb ‘to be’ in the context of personal information

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (0-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T Shows learners the logo of ‘Facebook’ and ask them to brainstorm what information they would include in a profile.

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T gives Sts HO that has been adapted to matching activity taken from p19 ex.1 and 2 and ask students to do the matching activity individually and then check in pairs.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Highlight the target language for this lesson – questions about personal information. Check that they understand the meaning. 1-What’s her name? what's her job? ...etc

Extra practice (3-5 minutes) • Focus on Yes/No questions and answers

T Elicits the answers to the questions in ex. 3 Is Ellie from America ? Is she from Spain ? Is she from England? and put them on the WB and Drill for pronunciation

Clarification (5-8 minutes) • To clarify the pronunciation of the target language

T shows TL on WB highlight on board and drill with Sts

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T gives Sts Ho from pg. 19, ex. 4. T ask Sts to answer indiv. then Pair-check. Then drill answers with whole class feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further

T gives Students HO pg 19 ex 5 HO. T ask student to answer the gap fill in pairs. Check answers with whole class.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with extra controlled practice of the target language

T gives Sts HO taken from TsB pg. 140 and tell students that this is their new identity and ask student mingle. learners will use questions and ask/give personal information based on cards.
