Procedure

Warm-up (5-6 minutes) • To freshen them and prepare them for the reading

Ask them to stand up and stretch their hands and legs and breath deeply. Walk among them and show them the picture of NEETs very quickly. I guess it is a kind of interesting though.

Lead-in (7-8 minutes) • To engage them in reading

Show them the picture of " NEETs", elicit its meaning, ask them " What are they?" , and ask them to read the text and choose the correct information, first individually, and then with their partners.

Listening (9-10 minutes) • To listen, and check their answers.

The Ss listen to T 5.7 to check their answers. Then ask them to check with their partners and get whole class feedback. While they are listening, I write some questions on the board e.g. " What surprised you?" "Is there a word NEET in Turkish?" make groups of 4 or 5 to discuss and take some feedback as well.

Post-listening (8-9 minutes) • To listen for more information and discussion

The Ss are shown pictures of three people to elicit " Who do you think they are?" " Do you think they are NEETs?" After they get engaged, write the headings on the board, group them and ask them to listen and take notes about the key information; pause after each and let them write. After they finish, ask them to check in their groups. At the end, choose a student from each group to go to another group and share their answers. Take some feedback as a whole class.

Speaking (10-11 minutes) • To encourage them discuss the given solutions

Group them and write " How can young people get from NEET to EET?" and " which of them would work best? Why?" Give them the list, ask them to discuss in their groups and take notes. Monitor and help them out if they need, write their errors to work on later on. Finally, take feedback as a whole class and correct their errors as well. If time- ask them to discuss the solutions about Turkey and personalize them as well. It helps this part to be more productive.
