I n this lesson, Students will be introduced to simple present questions and answers and practice them.

Main Aims

  • To intoduce and practice simple present questions and negativs for I, you, they using the verb 'to be to talk about personal information in the context of an interview with a band.

Procedure

Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Write on the board: What do I do? Elicit ''You are a teacher.'' Ask some students what do you do? Write some answers "I am an engineer" Have students work in pairs and ask each others "What do you do?" Show Ss photo on page 20 and have them guess who the people are. Provide the following questions: Who are they? What do they do? Paul and Donny are …….. What does the women do? What is Metro 5 ? Highlight brothers on the board. (Draw family tree) Elicit answers from students. Give Whole class feedback.

Listening for gist (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist listening task

Have students listen to track 3.6 to verify prediction from lead in. Have students discuss in pairs What they have got. Give whole class feedback. (Show pictures)

listening for specific information (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging, detailed, deduction and inference listening task

Have students read the questions and answers in ex. 3. Have students listen and complete ex. 3. Have student compare their answers in pairs. Give whole class feedback. clarify TL (Positive and questions )on the board.

Highlight (4-6 minutes) • To highlight the target language so that learners are focued on it.

Have students work in pairs to complete the blanks in the interview transcript. ICQ's: What are we doing? Are we going to work together or individually? Have students work in pairs to check their answers. Give whole class feedback.

Clarification (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Write some examples on the board from ex.3 e.g. Your are a builder. I am a builder. They are singers. Clarify the negative form and the short answers. M&F. Drill pronunciation. Have students work in small groups to categorize sentences according to what type they are i.e. Positive, Negative, Questions, and Short answers.

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Have students do ex. 8 p 18. Check answers in pairs. Whole class feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Have students work in pairs to do ex. 5 p20 Ask students to work with new people. Give Whole class feedback.
