Description

In this lesson the Ss will learn about shopping. In this stage the will understand how to speak in different shops and realize how they need to handle conservation. Speaking is the main aim of this lesson.

Main Aims

  • To provide specific functional phrases from text such as "is it fit for me? which size is this?"
  • Speaking

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a debate, conversation, pronunciation in the context of shopping

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask Ss where they were on the weekend one by one. Tell them about Cevahir shopping mall and what clothes, for example, what did they buy. Elicit new words from Ss and writing the words on the whiteboard. Regarding realia, it is better to divide the words to supermarket and Cloths shops.

Exposure (8-15 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Elicit the new words "customer and seller/Cashier". Show the picture on video projection and ask them who are these people? after that, give them handouts about the Ex.1 Speaking part. (matching) after that ICQ for what the next exercise is. Ex.2 P/W. Ex.3 P/W (regrouping).By emphasizing on intonations (raise and fall) for these phrases "How much is this? is it fit for me? " is it on sale?" then write on W/B " How much is this? " and other questions to Drill the phrases and intonation.

Productive Task(s) Demo from T. Role play (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

At this stage, Ss will play a game. Basically, this is very easy for Ss to understand how much money they have and how much are the things are. Student A will be a salesperson and other Ss will be customers. Then they have to buy from the shops (regarding the budget they have). they have to check the price list and pay the shops. During this stage, the T will write some errors from students secretly to monitor.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

The T will write the false sentences on W/B. At this stage, T will help the Ss to understand what errors do they have and why. Then they will correct the grammars by themselves this will help them to practice the useful functional phrases.
