Description

This lesson focuses on how the Ss practice the present simple in means of MFP, and applying it in the speaking and listening practices - related to describing a blind date, family member or a friend.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show a picture of a person and ask the Ss to give as much info as possible about them using the present simple; for exa

Highlighting (4-8 minutes) • to encourage Ss to notice the TL (Grammar ex 3a), and in this case find out what they know.

- I'll ask the Ss to do the exercise in pairs or small groups. - Then get feedback from nominated Ss from each group - Drill the words from the blanks

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- Ask the Ss to refer back to 3a and use the statements in order to deduce the answers in small groups. - Get whole-class feedback -Write answers on the board

Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- To put the Ss in pairs (even if the number is odd, one group can be of three) - Use Grammar ex d to make a link to the practice in ex e (p100 & 106) - Break up this information gap activity into two stages: 1) Give Ss time to write out the questions. Then drill some of them. 2) Ss work in pairs of A & B to ask and answer the questions and complete the tables. Discussing ex f will provide some FB.

Semi-Controlled Practice & freer practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice; to further consolidate the TL

- Cut the cards -Put Ss in small groups - Instruct the Ss to face each other and ask each other the questions - Monitor the Ss activity and provide fb on errors
