Description

This lesson maintains the context from the previous two and picks up on some of the points they have discussed. They may know some of the time phrases, but more idiomatic ones will be new.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To give Ss practice in writing opinnion parahraphs in the context of "What are you optimistic about?"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To extend Ss' awareness of future time phrases and give them the opportunity to practise them and future verb forms

Procedure

Language focus/presentation (1-3 minutes) • to create a context for the topic/ to present and make Ss familiar with the subject

Focus Ss on the examples from the listening in ex 1. Get Ss to decide on the meanings of the time phrases - as in ex 1.

Focus on meaning (2-4 minutes) • to get the students to find the meanings of the vocabulary by engaging them with an activity

Ask students to put the sentences on the correct coloums on the handouts they are given in pairs.

Controlled practice (2-3 minutes) • to check Ss understanding

Ask students to work individually and match the phrases with the time expressions.

Writing preparation (6-8 minutes) • To make students choose their topic and make them comfortable about the topic they are going to write about

Focus Ss on ex 3. Ss on their own choose one topic. Put Ss into groups according to their topic ( If you have just one S for one topic, get him/her to choose another group). Ss discuss in their groups "why are they optimistic about the topic and give examples?"

Writing (13-15 minutes) • To get Ss produce what they have learnt during the Systems

Exercise 4- Prepare paper for the Ss to write on with the question "What are you optimistic about?" at the top. Remınd Ss about the texts they read ın lesson 1. Ss look at the texts again and notice the organisation. Hıghlıght the points to include in ex 4. Ss work alone to write their own paragraphs about the topic they chose in the previous stage.

Feedback (8-10 minutes) • To correct any possible mistake

Ss swap their texts and check for and correct any errors- helping each other in pairs, etc. Monitor and help where needed. Put Ss' writing on the walls. Ss walk around and read each other's texts and decide who is the most optimistic.
