Gerund or Infinitive dance performances

Description

During this lesson, the students will learn about ''Gerund or Infinitive'' through a guided discovery within two reading texts about festivals and then the students will be provided controlled and freer practice.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of gerund and infinitive form in the context of unique dance performances

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of unique experiences

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Project picture ON. What do you see in these pictures? (dance performances,..) Have you ever watched such performance? How was it?

Exposure (5-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

SS read both texts about unique dance performances. (2minutes) Which of these shows appeal to you the most? Why? If you wouldn't like to see them, what do you want to see?

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ask SS Wh- questions about the texts to elicit marker sentences. -Why does the audience wear plastic ponchos? (to protect them from things like food and paint) -how likely is it for STOMP to leave an impression on you? (STOMP is sure to leave..) -What is a unique experience? (Watching this performance is a unique experience) -What kind of musical was STOMP? (without singing) -What do I need to enjoy if I want to fall in love with STOMP?(you need to enjoy going to theatrical performances) project marker sentences on WB Nominate students to write down the form

Clarification (17-20 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

MEANING give SS handout CCQs (CCQ handout) SS work alone Peer check. Feedback. SS work alone then check in pairs. Nominate 1 students for FB. Students nominates others. FORM SS are given matching HO. (Form Handout) work alone check in pairs SS answer T writes form on WB PRONUNCIATION Drill sentences. Some verbs(try, stop, remember, forget, regret, go on) can be followed by either by an -ing from or a full infinitive form but with a difference in meaning. SS are given HO SS work in pairs. Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

SS complete the text with the full infinitive, bare infinitive or the -ing form. (minutes) Project reading on WB. Nominate a student. Student nominates others/ T nominates

Free Practice (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Work in pairs. Try to convince your partner to see your favourite performance/festival.
