Description

In this lesson students are going to be engaged in practicing adverbs of manners and be engaged in productive skill development which is speaking using the target langauge.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of adverbs of manner in the context of abilities.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a adverbs of manner in the context of abilities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Display a picture of the girl Jenni riding a horse and ask the students to describe the picture and tell me what she can do and then have them guess what other activities she can do.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Give the students some cut-ups with words from the listening text. Ask them to put the cut-ps on the table. Play the recording and then Ss take the words when they hear them. Students listen to the listening text again and tick the things Jenni can do. Ask them to check in pairs and give feedback.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Individually, Students complete Jenni's sentences with words from the box. Ask them to check their answers in pairs. Give feedback.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Write some sentences on the board that include the target language. Ask CCQs and use a cline to clarify. have the students use the target language to see they got what it means. highlight the form and do some drilling.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Do a model example and then ask the students to put the words in the right order to make sentences. Students work in pairs. Give feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Demonstrate the task with one of the students and then ask them to ask and answer questions about what they can and cant do. Ask them to use the target language. Give feedback.
