In this lesson students are doing the reading activity ;as a Pre- reading they will learn vocabulary by matching the words to their definition. in while reading stage they will read a text about china and in as a post reading activity they will answer discussion questions in pairs

Materials

Abc reading text chosen from face to face book
Abc vocabulary matching hand out
Abc Shanghai picture
Abc lead-in discussion questions

Main Aims

  • To provide scan and gist reading practice using a text about china

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show the the flag of china and ask "Which country does this flag belong to? " Show the student the lead-in slides and ask them to talk about the language ,culture and famous people of china.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Show them the picture of Shanghai, and ask if they would like to go there why ?why not? they need to talk about the picture and the question below it in pairs choose some students and ask them to recite their answers to the class give them the vocabulary hand out and ask them to find the proper word for the given definitions

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Set the time for five minutes, ans ask the students to do part b. In this section students need to find three things in which Shanghai has changed. (skimming) ask them to check their answers in group nominate them to get feed back show the answers on the board set the time again and ask he students to do exercise c in this exercise students have to read the text and underline the parts of the article that tell them the given statements. ask them to check their answers in pairs nominate them to get feedback show the answers on the board IF SS HAD DIVERSE ANSWERS FOR ANY PARTS, ASK THEM TO JUSTIFY THEIR ANSWERS.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

show them the discussions questions ask them to talk in pairs and answer these questions then nominate the students to know their answers as the aim of this exercise is fluency , do not have hot correction. while they are talking check if they are doing the task right
