Description

In this lesson, students will listen to someone checking in at an airport. They will predict vocabulary, listen to the conversation and role-play the dialogue to practise their speaking skills. There are also suggestions for developing the theme of travel to practise specific areas of grammar.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-S will be shown pictures of the airport facilities and the staff working on it and the T will elicit from her the targeted vocab to facilitate her understanding of the main subject of the lesson. -Picture of boarding pass -Picture of boarding gate -Heathrow airport -Manila airport

Pre-Reading/Listening (4-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

S will be asked to predict what would happen in an airport during a check-in procedure between a passenger and an airport agent.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (7-9 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

S will be asked to listen to a conversation between an airport agent and a passenger and check if her ideas were similar to the conversation.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (6-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

-S will be asked to role play the dialogue once as a passenger and once as an airport agent.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-S will role play again and introduce different scenarios.E.g the flight was canceled or delayed.
