Description

In this lesson , Ss will learn the grammar of future continuous with a quick review of other forms of future through a listening task and an exercise with a freer speaking task at the end .

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the future continuous in the context of places to visit in London

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a group talk in the context of future plans and arrangements for the next few weeks

Procedure

lead-in (1-2 minutes) • to refresh their minds and bring them to the topic of future

- greet Ss - ask them if they remember anything from the last lesson - WC feedback

listening for gist (3-4 minutes) • to get them answer the questions in their sheets

- give instructions ( we are going to listen to Abby and Zoe , listen and answer the first 2 questions ) - show them the hand-out while giving the instructions - distribute the sheets - listen for gist - check in their pairs - WC feedback

Listening for details (3-4 minutes) • to get them listen more to the detail and write the connections of the words .

- instruct them about the second part of handout - listen to the audio - pair check - monitor - feedback on the board

Guided discovery (5-7 minutes) • getting Ss attention and draw it to GR

- draw a timeline - put now in the middle , elicit which is past and which is future - circle the word future - elicit the different kinds of forms for future and their usages - show them the handout and instruct them ( match the sentences with their usages ) - distribute the sheets - monitor and help them - WC feedback

Grammar lead-in (4-6 minutes) • to teach and introduce the new GR of the lesson

- write one example from the listening on the board related to GR - elicit the meaning - CCQ - show the tense on the time line with a different color - drill the example sentence - instruct the handout that has two different parts - pair work - monitor - WC feedback

Controlled Practice • to get Ss practice the GR better

- show them the handout - instruct ( there are 2 options , we should only choose one that fits the context ) - distribute - individually - check their answers in groups - listen and check

freer parctice (4-5 minutes) • to get the Ss personilize the GR by writing some sentences

- group the Ss ( max. 3 people in one group ) - instruct them ( ask your partner , what are their plans for the next few weeks , take notes because you are going to talk about them ) - monitor - take notes - delayed error correction
