Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the past continuous tense in the context of text on a historical moment

Subsidiary Aims

  • teaching them 3 prepositions (at, in, on)


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

i will show a photo and ask them to tell me what is happening.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

gap-fill text is going to be given to them at this stage and they are going to be asked to fill in the blanks

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

at this stage i will highlight the MFP of the new grammar (past continuous)

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

students will be asked to go to page 128 of their book and answer questions there

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

for the free practice part i will ask them to write story in a group of three with the words they are given
