In this lesson sts learn to use past progressive and simple past together to talk about past. They also learn to link these tenses by using while and when.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of past progressive progressive and simple past in the context of crimes

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a in conversations

Procedure

Warmer (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I review the previous lessons with the help of students.

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I'm going to divide sts in groups and give them some sentences from 3 short 3 stories. Then I ask them to put the sentences in the correct order and recreate the stories.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I'm going to Ask students to highlight sentences which contain "when" or "While" and underline the verbs in those sentences.

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will ask Students to repeat some of the sentences in the stories. Then I will teach grammar by asking questions and eliciting answers from students. I will do my best to help them discover the grammar rules and patterns by themselves. Then We will review the grammar lesson. Finally in the end I will ask them some CCQ questions.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

At first sts will do grammar exercises in their books and worksheets individually. Then they check their answers in pair or groups. I will monitor them During the process.

Semi-Controlled Practice (7-9 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I`m going to give sts a worksheet which contains some incomplete sentences. Sts must exchange their ideas by speaking and then complete the sentences with the best ideas.

Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In 2 groups sts write a crime story together. Then they will hang or stick their stories on the wall. Group one will read group two`s story and group two will read group one`s story. The best group will receive a reward.
