Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of Compound Nouns in the context of Houshold Items

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a easily confused words in the context of a crime scene

Procedure

establish routine (3-5 minutes) • To get to know the students and to break the Ice

T introduces himself and ask student about their names quickly T plays a game ( hangman ) to introduce the aim of the lesson passively - ( bedroom, armchair, coffee table, wallpaper)

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Aks student to go to page: 54 and chest out the page Elicit the headline ( Mystery ) ask stdeunts what do you think is about ? elicit ideas

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

-ask student to look at the picture and elicit one item ( armchair ) -ask students to go to exercise 1 to work in pairs and try to match/name as much as possible from the picture -students check with the pair behind/front of them .

Teach (3-5 minutes) • To clarify and prepare some areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

-T check meaning using flashcards and examples. - teacher drills chorally and individually

Test #2 (4-7 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

-T writes on the WB ( armchair) and asks student what is made from ? elicit (wood, leather) - Elicit different materials ( paper,glass,fabric,marble,china,wood) T asks student to work alone and try to what are the materials for the items in Ex.1 point out they can be made from more than one material Student check in pairs

Teach#2 (3-5 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language

T check possible answers for Test#2 stage - T on the board ( armchair, lamp shade ) ask student is arm and noun our a verb ? and then ask the same question about the three other nouns T elicit ( compound nouns ) Point out ( living room ) without going into detalies

Game (3-5 minutes) • To check meaning of the nouns and the matirlies

- Put student in groups explain the game by an example -T says a compound noun and the students have to the say the materials for it OR play hot seat with the same compound nouns

Test #3 (2-3 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

students go to Ex.3 and try to complete the compound nouns student check in pairs T class check

Test#4 (4-7 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the 3rd test

by this point student are familiar with compound nouns T on the board (6.1 Page: 132) ask student to go Page :132 Ex.1 T ask student to to make a compound nouns using the words in the bracts (this task will be a bit difficult so I will I and the TA will go around to help students with this task) T reads the example then do number 1. if needed. student work in pairs to make it easier for them (if Needed) Student check in pairs/groups T class check

Semi-Control practise (4-6 minutes) • To give a bit of space for student to generate their own ideas to make compound nouns

T asks student to Ex.2 P132 T helps students with (Sun- Sunrise, Sunshine, Sunlight) ask students to work alone and check in pairs T class check with TA

Free practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

asks students to go back to Page:54 and look at the picture again. and can you see what is missing T tells student a thief has stolen something look at the picture and try to guess how it happend ? Ask student to talk in pairs to see if they have the same ideas. T collect ideas and possible answers Now student listen to the inspector talking to his assistant. who does he think took the painting? are hios ideas similar to yours ? Now student listen again and find what are the three clues that helped the inspector reach his decision. Check in pairs Class check Now student think what will happen next share their ideas in pairs Sharing as a class

Test# 5 (6-8 minutes) • To introduce and clarify Homophones

T asks student what the spelling of (eight,ate) both student will give different spelling Elicit Homophones asks student to give more examples T elicit/ collect ideas T asks students to go to 6.2 Ex.1 and try to find Homophones for these words T student check in pairs and class check T ok now lets go to Ex.2 and chose the correct answer Student check in pairs T class check
