In this lesson, SS learn about jobs. The lesson starts with a discussion about different kinds of jobs.This is followed by watching a video to answer some questions, Finally, SS will work in pairs to discuss questions about the job.

  • To provide practice of words for jobs and places in the context of people
  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about jobs and places to live in the context of people
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a interesting jobs

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T. shows the class pictures of people doing different jobs eliciting as many words as possible. Then T. encourages learners to talk about family members. e.g.My brother is a doctor.

Preparing to watch (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The teacher explains that each group is given a set of cards. SS work in groups to match the place with the country. The winning group is the fastest with the correct answers. SS check each others' matching. Teacher elicits the meaning of the new words encouraging learners to drill individually then chorally. SS are encouraged to use the words meaningfully.

While Watching (5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T. encourges SS to read the questions. SS read the table individually for 1 minute. Then watch and complete the table. SS work in pairs checking their answers then Teacher gives feedback. While watching (5 minutes) • Watch for details

T. encourages ss to focus on the word box and the gapped sentences. T. plays the video again. Learners work individually to complete the sentences from the box. Then check in pairs. Finally, the teacher gives feedback.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T. explains to Ss that they are going to work individually to complete sentences using the words taught in class. T. demonstrates one or two sentences. ..................is in Italy.???? Milan Teacher checks understanding Are you going to work in pairs? No, Alone. SS are given 5 minutes to answer. Then SS check in pairs. Teacher gives feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T. focuses on the questions and gives learners a minute to think of their answers. The teacher explains that SS are going to work in pairs to ask and answer these questions. SS are encouraged to make long sentences using because, but, also.etc Teacher demonstrates the exercise A: Which person in the video has the most interesting job? Sebastian because he meets different people.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T. explains the game to SS. T. demonstrates the game. SS work in groups. T. monitors checking understanding and use of correct English.

Delayed Error Correction • Delayed error correction/ praise for good use of the language To provide students with a chance to correct errors made during the game board and ; to praise them for god use of the language and thus build their confidence. Congratulate Ss on their performance. Conduct delayed error correction. Wrap up and highlight the most important points taught. White Board T-SS 5
