Students will continue on from their last lesson, and learn about travel and couchsurfing.They will do 2 listening exercises and some more creative tasks to follow on from this.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about couchsurfing in the context of travel

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a profile and email in the context of a couchsurfing profile/request


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Powerpoint to remind students of previous lesson and introduce them to the concept of "couch surfing"

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will pre teach some of the vocabulary used in the listening exercise so that students can understand the listening better. They will use a matching exercise first and then we will go through the answers as a class and work on pronunciation

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Students will listen to a recording and figure out whether their prediction about what couch surfing is was correct.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students will listen for detail by answering true or false to a series of statements. They will fill this out on a handout.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students will create their own couchsurfing.org profile. They will then hang them up, choose their favourite, and write an email to this person requesting to stay with them.
