To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about couchsurfing in the context of travel
To provide product writing practice of a profile and email in the context of a couchsurfing profile/request
Procedure (45-55 minutes)
Powerpoint to remind students of previous lesson and introduce them to the concept of "couch surfing"
I will pre teach some of the vocabulary used in the listening exercise so that students can understand the listening better. They will use a matching exercise first and then we will go through the answers as a class and work on pronunciation
Students will listen to a recording and figure out whether their prediction about what couch surfing is was correct.
Students will listen for detail by answering true or false to a series of statements. They will fill this out on a handout.
Students will create their own couchsurfing.org profile. They will then hang them up, choose their favourite, and write an email to this person requesting to stay with them.
