Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide process writing practice of a Postcard in the context of Traveling

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In the lead in, I will give the students a listening exercise to set the context, and then have them discuss it in pairs.

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

During the pre-reading stage, I will preteach the vocabulary by telling a short story and the students will complete a picture matching exercise to check comprehension. The students will paircheck their answers.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

During the while reading stage, the students will first complete a reading for gist exercise where they have to complete a picture matching exercise, the students will then be asked to walk around and check the answers from other students.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

During this stage, the students will first complete a reading for detail exercise, they will then be divided into groups to discuss their answers. When that is completed, they will move on to a reading for specific information task, and they will again discuss this in groups.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In the final stage, the students will be asked to write their own postcards based on the activity performed in the lead in, their postcards will then be mailed, and they have to mingle in class to find the person who sent them the postcard they received.
