Description

In this lesson, Ss learn about some vocabulary related to places in the towns, they will use these vocabulary in different exercises about different towns. Then, they will listen to records about people talking about their cities to match the words they learn with the speakers' names. Finally they will discuss in small group which cities the like the most.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask the Ss what are their favorite cities inside and outside Egypt and why they like it?

Exposure (2-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-I'll give the Ss two minutes to read a short paragraph. -Then I will ask them to work in pairs to discuss what is the main city the paragraph is talking a bout? and what are the places mentioned in it? -I'll monitor and then give feedback.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-I'll ask the Ss to underline the places mentioned in the text. -I'll ask them to check their answers in pairs. -I'll monitor and give feedback.

Clarification (4-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-I'll show the Ss some pictures about some places and ask them about them to illustrate the target vocabulary such as: church, bridge, palace, mosque

Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-I'll ask the students to listen to the recording then write the number of each speaker next to the word in the box -that they learnt about. -I'll monitor while answering. -Then I'll ask them to check their answers in pairs then I'll check the answers with the whole class

Semi-Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-I'll ask the Ss to discuss in small groups which one of the five cities they like the most and why, and to describe a town they like very much. -I'll monitor while speaking. -I'll give feedback if needed.

Free Practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-I'll ask the Ss to go around the stocked pictures on the wall and discuss freely with each other which city they'd like to visit the most. _I'll monitor their discussion.
