Description

In this lesson, Ss will be engaged with some pictures of different ways of greeting. They will have some questions for speaking followed by reading for gist.After that, they will have detailed questions. Finally, they will have a speaking task.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about Kiss,bow,or shake hands in the context of Greeting

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency in the context of Greeting

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Engage the Ss by projecting a picture of hi and try to greet the students with a bow, shake hands, hug etc.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Project some pictures of different ways of greeting on the board, give the Ss time to read them, then give the Ss handouts for speaking activity .Have the students to read the questions and have a conversation in 3 minutes. Get the Ss to change their partners and have the same conversation with the new partner.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Divide the Ss into 5 groups. Give each one a big size handout, have them to read the questions. After that, give the Ss the text to read it and do the questions in 5 minutes.Then, ask the Ss to stand up and check other groups answers.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Give the Ss true or false exercise to do it alone in 5 minutes.Then, ask them to check their answers with their partners.Finally, have the feedback from the Ss by asking them to write the answers on the board.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Give the Ss the handouts for speaking.Get them to ask their partners the questions. Then, regroup the Ss again and get them to do the same thing.
