Description

In this lesson,students will be engaged in a reading comprehension about our digital world".This receptive skill is developed by a lead in ,a short discussion and pre-teaching vocabulary.Then, after skimming and scanning for details, student will be asked to discuss an argument as a post activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about Our digital world in the context of life in cyberspace
  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about Our digital world in the context of Life in cyberspace

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of life in cyberspace
  • To provide clarification of some unfamiliar words in the context of cyberspace

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

8 gaps written on the board,students should guess the missing gaps (hangman). ask them whether your life is affected by Internet. they discuss the question in pair. they will be given a paper as an idea to help them.

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

students are given handouts.they should match the words with the definitions. they should check and compare their answers with their partners. As a feedback, answer key is shown on the board. some checking on the pronunciation.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

students are shown a picture and some prediction about the text.Students should read the headings and then skim through the text to match with paragraph. then they should compare and check their answers. teacher gets feedback from students.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

students should scan the text to find the specific names and dates,then read those parts carefully for detailed reading. They should compare and check their answers.

Post-Reading/Listening (5-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The class is divided into two groups.in each group,in pairs, they should discuss.the arguments.I read a provocative sentence.one group make arguments for and the other one against. Then,they should join other groups and make a debate.
