Description

In this lesson, students learn about places through guided discovery-based on a reading text about Cairo. The lesson starts with a discussion about holidays. It is followed by trip review where students read and order the information according to the text.Students will be introduced to the past simple by focusing on some sentences in the text. This is followed by some gap filling exercises

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson learners will be able to talk about places they visited using the past simple tense

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide reading practice using a review in the context of places.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

ss will be shown posters of Cairo. I will ask warm-up questions like: Do you know these places? Did you go to Cairo? Name another place in Cairo.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

ss will be given a handout. They will complete sentences about their last holiday using the past simple tense

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

I will write some questions on the board about the text and student will answer. I will write the answers on the board and underline the verbs in the past. I will ask the students to write sentences about themselves. Where did you go last holiday? Where did you stay? What did you do there? Who did you go with? They will complete task A and B In task A they need to fill in the blanks. In task B they need to find the mistakes.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

In pairs, students will read an email and choose the correct form of the verbs. Ii will ask them to describe a restaurant they visited. describe the weather, the food,

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In groups, I will ask the students to write about a town they visited recently.
