In this lesson,students learn about present and past habits,repeated actions and states based on a listening about habits of Cassy and Ted who recently took part in a survey

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of present and past habits,repeated actions and states in the context of healthy food

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a discussion in the context of habits in life
  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about habits in the context of eating habits


Warmer/Lead-in (3-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

students watch a short video about healthy eating habits. they, in pairs, discuss what the woman said in the video.

Exposure (5-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

students are given handouts.they should read the sentences. they should decide who said sentences 1-6 (Cassy -Ted). check their answers with their peers. students listen and tick their answers (Cassy or Ted) students unfold their papers and look at the questions. they should listen and answer the questions. peerchecking answers are on the OHP.as a feedback.

Highlighting (4-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

students are given another handouts. they should read sentences. there are two forms in each sentence. they should circle the right forms. answer key is on the other side of paper,they can look and decide why they chose that form. in order to see whether they know why the answer is correct, teacher asks them.

Clarification (5-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I review the parts they know and actually clarify those parts in highlighting they don't know. To achieve my aim,I''ll use as much as CCQs and elicitation as possible.

Controlled Practice (6-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Sudent's are given a short text about Ted's parants. they should fill in the gaps with the correct form of the verbs in brackets. check their answers with their peers. some delayed error correction. correcting their answers on the board. answers are displayed on the board.

Semi-Controlled Practice (10-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

students get back to 20 years ago,they are in a school reunion,everyone has a role card and a questionnaire. they should mingle and find the answers for each role card

Free Practice (5-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

students discusses the differences about their life five years ago and their life now. to add some variety,
