Description

In this lesson, students learn about the past tense of to be/ yes/no questions and short answers in the context of a reading about the first day at school and work in which students are going to be taught the vocabulary of emotion and personality before reading the text. Then ss will answer questions. MFP will be clarified . after that ss will have controlled practice and later free practice and finally they take feedback on their practice.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

you are going to watch a short movie. write these questions on the board who is he? Is he happy? Where is he going? what does he have in his hand? what is he waiting for? now in pairs, discuss about the answers

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

show ss the pictures of 2 people in reading , say their names and ask them : where are they? do they look happy? where is here? is it a school? is it a restaurant? 2-pre- teach vocabulary. show the pictures of vocabulary on the board, make two groups, name them by color, give them vocab cards and tell them stick the cards on the pictures. elicit the words, give feedback and ask them to repeat the words.3- tell them: you are going to read a text about these two people, you have 3 minutes. now in pairs check answers. elicit answers and write them on the board.

Highlighting (1-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

show 4 sentences on the board: 1- A: Was Jeff’s teacher strict? B: yes, she was very strict. 2- A- Were Jeff and his classmates noisy? B- no, they weren’t noisy. 3- A-Was Rosa’s boss happy about her mistakes? B- no, he wasn’t too pleased. 4- A- Were Rosa’s customer’s nice? B-yes, they were nice because Rosa was new. Ask CCQs:

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

show 4 sentences on the board: ask ss: are the sentences about past? yes Are they about present? no Are they questions? yes Are sentences 1 and 3 plural ?no Are sentences 3 and 4 plural?yes tell students they are going to do a gap-fill task for 2 minutes .give them handouts. tell them work in pairs and check answers. take wc feedback and write the answers on the board. clarify the pronunciation.

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Tell students: you are going to do a gap-fill task, show them the task and tell them to fill the gaps with was/were/ wasn't/ weren't. you have 3 minutes. now check your answers in pairs. show the task on board and take feedback.write answers on the board.

Semi-Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Demo about your first English class, tell ss they are going to do a task: work in pairs, you are A and you are B. look at these words, Make questions and answer the questions.

Free Practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

tell ss about your first English class when you were younger. ask them work in pairs ,ask and answer questions about their first English class in ITI.
